We can offer professional care and support to victims of a wide range of addictions. You can come to us for rehab treatment to overcome a substance dependency, such as an alcohol or drug addiction, or a behavioural addiction such as an addiction to gambling or sex.

No matter the nature or severity of your problem, we are here to help.

What to expect from Drug and Alcohol Rehab

Addiction can be a frightening thing to go through. It can feel like you are losing control, both of your body and your mind, and without the right help it is often very difficult to get your life back on track.

The best way to overcome a substance addiction is to go through drug rehab, but the idea of rehab centres can also be intimidating.

You might have certain perceptions about rehab that have made you feel hesitant to reach out for professional care, so it is important that you have a good idea of what you can actually expect from a treatment clinic.

After being admitted to the rehabilitation clinic, the first thing to happen is a complete physical and mental examination.

Every case is different, and the problems that you suffer as a result of your addiction will depend upon a number of different factors. An alcohol addiction presents different health risks to, say, a cocaine addiction.

Likewise, treatment options that would work very well to cure a patient of alcoholism may be ineffective in the treatment of a cocaine addict. Once our team fully understands your circumstances and the nature of your problem, you will undergo drug or alcohol detoxification.

Detoxification is the part of rehab that many people are scared of. Put as simply as possible, detox is a period of time in which access to the drug you are addicted to is restricted, giving your body time to process the toxins in your system and fully flush them out.

It is an integral part of drug rehab, but it is also unfortunately a very uncomfortable one. During this process it is likely that you will struggle with physical and psychological withdrawal symptoms, which can vary significantly in terms of severity.

Some patients will only experience generic aches and pains, while others might experience hallucinations and even seizures. The important thing to remember is that rehab offers a safe and regulated environment in which to go through this- if you were trying to sober up alone, you would have to go through the withdrawal period at some point regardless.

So it is the best, and by far the safest option to go through this difficult process with access to constant, high quality medical care. Replacement drugs will also be available if necessary to reduce the potential dangers of withdrawal.

Sufferers of opioid addictions can be provided with methadone to help with the weaning process, and Librium may be prescribed as part of alcohol rehab to ease the withdrawal symptoms.

Therapies and Aftercare

Detox is an important step, but it is not the only thing that rehabilitation has to offer. Addiction is just as much a psychological issue as it is a physical one, and getting the toxins out of your system is only the beginning of your journey.

Addiction has a strong connection to mental health issues. Sufferers of mental health conditions such as depression and anxiety are much more likely to develop an addiction, whether that takes the form of a dependency on a harmful drug or the development of a behavioural addiction such as gambling.

This is because most addictions begin as unhealthy coping mechanisms, with addicts engaging in this kind of dangerous behaviour for the momentary release and sense of escape that it gives them.

And in cases where the addict has no prior history of mental illness, the physical and mental toll of addiction often leads to the development of anxiety disorders and increases the likelihood of falling into depression.

In order to ensure that you will not relapse and fall back into these unhealthy habits, it is critical that you receive comprehensive, holistic care.

This means addressing the root causes of your addiction, and providing you with the self-understanding and mental discipline to resist the future temptation to continue using or drinking.

As part of your treatment, you will undergo a range of different therapies. The most common therapy used as part of addiction treatment is cognitive behavioural therapy, which aims to help you approach problems in a calm and rational manner.

Other common therapies that you might receive may include psychotherapy, recreational therapies such as art or music therapy, mindfulness and meditation classes, fellowship meetings, and even less conventional treatments such as Reiki and reflexology.

Once your time at the clinic is over and you return to your normal life, you will still have access to our support and guidance. It is our practice to offer comprehensive aftercare for a further 12 months following the completion of your treatment.

This aftercare programme entitles you to return to the clinic for weekly appointments, so that you can talk to your counsellor and continue the work begun when you were a resident patient. In the unfortunate event of a relapse, you will also be able to return to the clinic.
