Opioid Addiction Rehab

Opioid is a broad term for a class of drugs that interact with the brain and nervous system. Some opioids are available through prescription and are used to relive pain.

Opioids can be categorised into two distinct groups.

Natural (Opiates)

Opiates are plant-based opioids created directly from the opium poppy.

  • Morphine
  • Codeine
  • Opium

Synthetic

Synthetic opioids are created in labs for specific medical purposes. These are usually much more potent and concentrated than natural opioids and can carry a higher risk of addiction.

Semi Synthetic Opioids

These are created with chemically altered opium poppies.

  • Heroin
  • Oxycodone
  • Hydrocodone
  • Hydromorphone

Fully Synthetic

These are entirely manufactured in labs without relying on the opium poppy.

While highly effective for managing severe pain, all types of opioids carry a high risk of dependence, addiction, and overdosing.

Understanding Opioid Addiction

Opioids are effective in short-term treatment of pain due to their potency and high risk of addiction. They should not be taken to treat chronic or long-term pain.

Acting by directly impacting the receptors in your brain, opioids bind with your opioid receptors in the body and mimic natural pain-killing chemicals, creating feelings of euphoria and pleasure.

Over extended periods, the body can develop a tolerance for these chemicals, and you may find that you need higher dosages to achieve the same effect. This can eventually lead to dependence and addiction.

While people may start taking opioids for genuine medical reasons, anything other than the prescribed dosages may lead to further problems.

Signs and Symptoms of Opioid Addiction

When prescribed opioids by a medical professional, they will know exactly how much and for how long they should be taken. Taking anything other than the advised greatly increases your addiction risk.

As excessive opioid use depresses your central nervous system, you may find that you experience:

  • Difficulty breathing
  • Constipation
  • Nausea
  • Confusion
  • Heart issues
  • Drowsiness

I am Sam and I arrived at Cassiobury Court for 28 days at the end of May. This was my second rehab experience. I cannot praise Cassiobury Court enough. Each day was well structured and every group session was designed to give you different tools to sobriety. I learnt so much from all the therapists and key workers that were taking the sessions due to my lack of understanding of this illness. I was in a place where I was made to feel comfortable and no question were silly which encouraged me to dig deeper and ask questions around my illness and myrecovery. Cassiobury Court approach to recovery, worked very well for me. It was not like Boot Camp. They actually gave me time to digest the information that was given and time to absorb what was said they kind of gave me the balance to learn, but also do every day life things, I also had time to reflect and focus on myself I would encourage any newcomers to rehab to engage in many group sessions as they can and take out as much as they can out of these sessions the 12 step AA program was explained to me in such a simple way and gave me the confidence to work it. I would like to give a special thanks to my key worker as she has helped me find a a new sober, Sam. My key worker from the start has been open and honest which has helped me with my recovery. I would like to also thank all the staff at Cassiobury Court that have had an impact on my road to recovery. A special thanks to the kitchen staff and the cleaning staff, as by them doing what they do gave me time to focus on myself and not have to worry about cooking and cleaning. The kitchen staff have made sure that I have been eating properly and have helped me build up my strength. Overall, Cassiobury Court is the place to come to if in need of a medical detox or need to understand what is involved in recovery and give you the opportunity on how to get away from addiction It’s like being given a second sober life. I cannot thank Cassiobury Court enough.

My experience at CC has been truly life-changing. During my 2-week stay I managed to turn my life around with the help of the recovery programme CC has given me. All staff are very professional, supportive, friendly and approachable. I could turn to anyone at any time of the day if I needed help or simply anyone to talk to. The sessions are very informative and engaging. The feeling of community is unparallelled. I enjoyed a combination of 1-2-1 meetings/therapy sessions, group workshops, creative sessions and social activities. I was exposed to a variety of fellowships, was taught about multiple concepts and techniques to enable my recover. The facility itself, alongside with the quality of food and housekeeping is excellent. The atmosphere at CC made me feel safe, welcomed and understood. I would strongly recommend CC to any suffering addicts seeking a long-term receovery. When you book CC, you won't regret it!

I have recently completed a 28 day stay at Cassiobury Court (CC) Rehabilitation Facility. I walked up to the gates of CC in total despair. I was a broken man. A man with no purpose in life. I had been drinking for 31 years. I had lost everything – family, friends, job, houses, cars and I hated myself with a passion! I couldn’t even look at myself in the mirror. All because of the dreaded disease called ALCOHOL! I wasn’t living, just merely existing! I came to realise that I was unable to beat my addiction on my own. I had no choice but to surrender and ask for help. I hadn’t asked anyone for help in all my life – my ego and pride when drinking was just too big! I needed help from CC and the staff certainly delivered on all levels. My stay at CC was very enlightening – a phenomenal experience! The best decision I have ever made in my life! A very humbling experience. The staff at CC are all very loving, caring and willing to help their clients to succeed. It’s like they do what they do because they genuinely want to support you and save your life from addiction. They all treat you with the utmost respect and all are willing to meet your specific needs. Nothing is too much trouble for them. I cannot praise the staff at CC enough for all the love, care support and help they give to every client; Management, Therapists, Key Workers, Kitchen Staff, Housekeeping and Maintenance. The staff all treat you as an equal and I now regard them all as family – “My CC family!”. The group sessions are taken by Therapists and Key Workers who all conduct themselves in a very professional manner. The daily schedule is very structured. The staff who run these sessions all have great expertise and experience to help you on your journey to recovery. I have certainly left CC with the tools I need to sustain many happy and sober years ahead of me. I am eternally grateful to them for giving me this opportunity! The setting of CC is one of tranquility. It is in very peaceful surroundings. The is a lovely courtyard/gardens available for clients and staff to use at their leisure. The rooms and communal areas are all well maintained. The food is outstanding and fully trained staff are available for all you medical, dietry and general requirements. My overall experience of CC is sensational! I highly recommend that if you are suffering from addiction and want the best opportunity to rebuild your life and future, then your journey to recovery should start at CC. My love and best wishes to all at CC.

Opioid Addiction Recovery

As with many other drugs, opioid recovery can come with its complications. Effective opioid detox and withdrawal involve more than just stopping taking the drug. To successfully recover from the addiction, it helps to understand the underlying causes of your abuse to prevent any future relapses.

Due to opioids effects on the body, stopping suddenly can also lead to health complications including:

  • Chills
  • Cramps
  • Dehydration
  • Irregular heartbeat
  • Loss of appetite
  • Mood swings

While not usually fatal, these symptoms can be distressing and potentially increase the risk of relapses.

Can You Recover On Your Own?

Recovering from opioid addiction is possible on your own, however it is extremely difficult. Detox and withdrawal symptoms can be debilitating depending on your level of addiction and can increase your chances of relapse. At a minimum, we would recommend seeking help through family, friends, and your local healthcare services.

Ideally, professional rehabilitation will be your best route to recovery. It can support you through your detox and identify the reasons behind your addiction, helping you to develop healthier ways to overcome your urges.

Recovery isn’t a journey that you need to take on your own. There are resources available specifically created to help you without shame or judgement.

Residential Opioid Treatment at Cassiobury Court
