Alcohol or drug addiction is a lifelong chronic illness that requires regular upkeep to avoid a relapse. This is why as part of your treatment plan with Cassiobury Court drug and alcohol rehabilitation, you will have access to aftercare services.

To put it simply, aftercare services are designed to build upon the treatments you received during your stay in the rehabilitation facility to enable to you adapt to your new drug and alcohol-free life.

Like how the treatment plans we offer are unique for each person offering personalised treatment options to fit any kind of lifestyle and budget, the same goes for the aftercare services.

They are long term changes and treatments that you will need to incorporate into your life in order to continue towards your goal, be it to reduce the amount of alcohol you drink or drugs you use or if it is to even someday achieve long term recovery.

Think of rehab as the dentist, there to help you deal with the problems and the aftercare services such as brushing your teeth. By engaging with the aftercare services, you can lower your risk of relapse and live a healthier and happier life.

What do Aftercare Services Include?

There are many different types of aftercare services available to further support you after you have succesfully detoxified from alcohol.

These can be different intensities to help those who struggle with different levels of drug or alcohol addiction.

To begin with, there is the most widely known aftercare services. Support groups such as Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics anonymous work very similarly to how group therapy did within the rehab centre.

They act as an opportunity to work with others at different stages of their recovery journey and to support each other. A support group can be very useful for building a support network of people who can really understand your experiences and will know how to help you, something you may wish to do for others in time.

Suppose you have decided to follow the 12 steps to recovery. In that case, you will learn that a support group and actively helping others who are struggling with addiction is one of the final steps and, for many, can prove very helpful.

However, the most beneficial part of the support group aftercare services is the fact that it provides you with someone to monitor your progress.

In addition, many support groups provide a sponsorship program so that you can have someone to help you take responsibility for your actions and provide support when traditional therapists can not. This, in many ways, replicates the 24-hour support available within the drug and alcohol rehab facility without hindering on your freedom.

Relapse Prevention

A key part of the aftercare services available to you will be a relapse prevention plan.

This is a personalised treatment plan designed to build upon your specific treatments and experiences within the drug and alcohol rehab centre.

In most cases, the relapse prevention plan will include a referral for follow up therapy sessions as part of an aftercare program which can range from a month to a year. Regular therapy sessions will give you the opportunity to continue to work to improve your mental health and to understand what led you to drug or alcohol addiction in the first place.

As part of your relapse prevention plan, you will also have the tools for you to avoid triggers for your cravings. These tools can come in the form of meditation or mindfulness, a distraction through an artistic hobby such as music or painting, and a safe person to seek help from. But, again, this can depend on what kind of therapy you were recommended for during your stay at the rehab centre.

The elapse prevention plan is there to allow you to incorporate the skills you learned in rehab to live a healthier life that is free from drugs and alcohol.

Aftercare services are also about enabling you to adapt your lifestyle around your sobriety.

We don’t want you to set yourself unrealistic goals only to cause a setback due to not achieving them. Achievable goals about lifestyle improvements involving your addiction over the new five years are a key part of the aftercare services.

We want to help you to adjust to considering your long term plans and how you can ensure you don’t jeopardise your recovery.

Home Based Aftercare

With this, you do have the option of a home-based aftercare programme.

This is focused on providing you with a stable transitional period so that the change from the drug and alcohol rehab centre to your home isn’t too jarring. This method will see your housing situation and environment as the central to your long term recovery. Where you will need to be surrounded by positive reinforcement and goals rather than temptation.

Some people prefer to have aftercare services that are purpose centred. This can be very helpful for people who went through the rehabilitation process with a specific goal in mind. This can be a very good option for motivated and ambitious people.

One of the most important parts of the aftercare services is the encouragement for you to go out and integrate with your local community and avoid any bad influences.

Addiction can be very isolating and lonely. It is a difficult time that can carry a lot of fear and shame for some people. This can negatively impact a person’s mental health, resulting in more substance abuse creating a vicious cycle.

That is why as part of your aftercare services, you can’t do it alone. Be in through community engagement or support groups. You need to go out and be with people who can have a positive impact on you and your recovery.

Aftercare services are there to enable you to continue the good work you have done during your stay at the drug and alcohol rehab centre. It can help you to continue to reduce the amount of drugs and alcohol you consume and to work to improve your mental health.

You just have to be willing to put in the work so that you can begin to live the happier and healthier life you deserve.
